Contour-Based Pricing
ProTransfers pricing is calculated per square inch based on the actual shape of your artwork — learn how it works and how volume discounts lower your cost.
ProTransfers uses contour-based pricing — your price is calculated per square inch based on the actual shape of your artwork, not a rectangle around it. This means you never pay for empty space, and every transfer ships pre-cut to the exact contour of your design.
How Pricing Works
When you upload artwork, ProTransfers measures the contour (outline) of your design and calculates the area in square inches. The price per square inch depends on your total order volume — the more you order, the lower the rate.
The formula is straightforward:
Width x Height x Contour Ratio x Quantity = Total Square Inches
The contour ratio reflects how much of the bounding rectangle your artwork actually fills. A circular logo fills about 78% of its bounding box. An irregular shape might fill 40%. You only pay for the filled area.
Volume Tiers
The total square inches across your entire cart determines your price per square inch. As you add more items, reaching higher volume thresholds lowers the rate for every item in your cart.
This means adding items to your cart can reduce the per-unit price of items already in it. Your cart always shows your current price tier and how far you are from the next one.
How the Volume Cascade Works
- You add a design — your total is 3,000 square inches at your current tier
- You add two more designs — your total rises to 8,000 square inches, crossing into a lower price tier
- Every item in your cart recalculates at the new, lower rate
Your cart shows the current price per square inch, a progress bar toward the next tier, and the potential savings if you reach it.
What You See in the Cart
Each item in your cart shows:
- Dimensions — width and height in inches. Adjust the width and the height updates proportionally.
- Quantity — number of prints for this design
- Square inches — the measured area for this item
- Price per square inch — your current volume rate
- Price per print — the cost for each individual transfer
- Subtotal — total cost for this item at the current quantity
The order summary on the right shows your total square inches, the active price tier, and the order total. Changes to dimensions or quantities update pricing instantly.
Saved Carts
If you order the same designs regularly, save your cart for reuse:
- Give your cart a name (e.g., "ABC Corp Weekly Order")
- Load it later to restore all items with their dimensions, quantities, and notes
- Merge saved carts to combine items from multiple configurations and benefit from higher volume tiers
- Saved carts remain available indefinitely — use them as reorder templates
Multi-Device Sync
Your cart is stored on your account, not your device. Changes sync automatically across all your devices and browser tabs. Start building a cart on your desktop and finish on your phone — your items, quantities, and pricing are always current.
Why Contour-Based Pricing
Traditional transfer pricing charges by sheet size — you pay for a rectangle whether your artwork fills it or not. ProTransfers measures the actual shape of your design, which offers two advantages:
- Fair pricing — you pay for what you use. A narrow, tall design costs less than a wide square design of the same height because it covers fewer square inches.
- Pre-cut delivery — because ProTransfers already knows the exact contour of your artwork for pricing, every transfer ships cut to that shape. You never need to cut transfers yourself.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does file format affect the price?
No. A 4" x 6" PNG costs the same as a 4" x 6" AI file. Pricing is based on dimensions and shape, not file format.
When do I see the final price?
Your cart shows a price as soon as you add an item. This is based on a quick measurement of your artwork's shape. At checkout, the price is confirmed using the full analysis. Any adjustment is typically less than 5% and is shown before you pay.
Can I get a volume discount by combining different designs?
Yes. Volume tiers are based on total square inches across your entire cart, not per design. Combining multiple designs into one order pushes you into higher volume tiers, lowering the rate for everything in the cart.
How does ProTransfers measure my artwork's shape?
ProTransfers traces the outline of your artwork's visible content — excluding transparent areas — and calculates the area within that outline. The contour overlay in the Studio (toggle it in the toolbar) shows you exactly what shape is being measured.
Do saved carts keep the same price?
Saved carts store your item configurations. When you load a saved cart, prices are recalculated at current rates. Your saved cart page shows any price difference since the cart was last saved.
